Video Transcript

all right yes today's video I'm really excited about because I've always wondered what these taste like. we're gonna be reviewing a MRE from Amazon we have the Asian style beef strips with vegetables.

I've seen quite a few of these videos in the past and I've always wondered what these tastes like so I got one and we're gonna see how good or how bad it is.

let's get this thing open and see what's inside all right packaged inside of the package when we go looks like we have my heater pack a spoon some blackberry jam cocoa beverage powder which I'm gonna assume is gonna be like a hot chocolate so I'll have to test that out

what's this wheat snack bread tff what does tff stand for I wonder oh we got sour skittles chunky peanut butter an unlabeled bag of something

it doesn't even say what this is I'm gonna assume that this yeah it says this is the this must be maybe the vegetables

maybe yeah this has to be the vegetables because this is the beef strips so I'm gonna assume this is the beef strips and vegetables so first let's start off with this wheat snack bread tff whatever that stands for

see what this is all about okay it smells like a pop-tart light like the breading around the pop-tart that's exactly what this smells like anything kind of tastes like it's kind of sweet yeah this is exactly - smells exactly like the bread off of a pop-tart just put some peanut butter on this

give open Taylor here all right it's almost peanut butter all here that's it not bad really really really dry but really not bad stress on this blackberry jam ooh ha liquidy

hey rip it up okay that's good that's actually very good so far I'm impressed I don't think whatever this I don't know what this is mostly this looks like okay so napkin beverage base lemonade some iodized assault in a moist outlet and two pieces of gum that's nice

just put this in here see what this tastes like wow this is it this is like it's almost like moisture garment okay rock solid okay

this is gonna be a problem let's try yeah we're gonna shake it up see what this tastes like it just tastes like lemonade now texture pretty good that just tastes like normal lemonade it even says pretty shoulder yeah it's even sugar-free it doesn't taste like sugar free so now let's get this going

we'll try that in a minute let's see here okay

so from what I understand I don't need that and I'm supposed to tear off the top of the bag and then fill this bag with water but just up to these lines down here and it says in the real big print do not overfill so I will do my best to knock over he'll fill this up

Oh overfilled a little bit oh oh well I think it'll be all right so then we put this no oh maybe I should have read these instructions a little better oh you film that this heater underneath MRE well put that there that's nice and warm it says to lean this up against a rock or something so that will be our something

although it didn't I didn't read how I was supposed to leave it there so I guess I'll just leave it there until I feel ready well that percolates and does it thing I'm just gonna finish this bread alright now that I'm finished with the bread let's check on this oh that's hot that's actually really hot that smells like it could set the cardboard on fire I guess

we'll just come back whenever this gets done percolating they're doing whatever it's doing see you guys in a minute and we'll back the beef strips were warm but the vegetables were not probably because I had them stacked on top of each other and all the heat was just going into this one and not that one so rookie mistake for using MREs

so we're gonna start off with this and let that continue to warm up see what these beef strips taste like no these are these are not the beef strips these are it smells like payers or maybe pineapple that point wasn't supposed to be warmed up

so well it's my own ignorance but in my defense, this package wasn't labeled of all so suit this is all about yeah these are definitely pairs it kind of tastes like like I'm eating the inside of a pie actually yeah

like if you just took all the filling out of a pie and put it in a bag and then heat it up it's exactly what this tastes like this is that actually pretty good Wow I'm surprised I really thought some of this stuff wouldn't be that great there would just be kind of okay but most of this stuff is actually pretty good or maybe I just have really low standards but no this is actually really really good this is actually so good if I could get one of these pouches every day I would this is actually

it's actually that good this is that's really surprising now we'll see what these beef strips taste like they taste half as good as this peach filling or whatever that was we'll be in business we'll be in good shape mmm

see if you guys can see that kind of looks like mush looks like sloppy so far this doesn't look as good as the other stuff there's something crunchy in here it's throwing me off don't know what it is it's almost like a some of it tastes like there's like a potato chip in here or something what that is yeah

there's some type of vegetable in here that has a really hard crunchy texture I'm not really a fan of but the rest of that if you take out whatever vegetable that is that's in here that has that real hard crunch to it then

it's actually pretty good it's not as good as the the peaches but it's definitely not bad like if I was stranded somewhere and this was all I had to eat I would be thrilled to have this

not even half as bad as what I expected it to be I really didn't think there's gonna be all that good but so far everything has been pretty good now I'm going to to get a cup and we'll try this cocoa beverage powder and see what that's like I'm assuming it's just gonna be like a like a hot chocolate or something all right

I have a cup we are back so I'm just gonna dump some water into this cup [Applause] [Music] [Applause] yeah it kind of just smells like hot chocolate don't pull this in here I punch it up heated up the water since it's gonna be like hot chocolate but oh well all right mix this up you're supposed to dump the water inside of here and fill it up to this line and then shake the pouch well this will have about the same effect but I do notice that the first ingredient is sugar

so maybe it's not like hot chocolate and it's just a sugary chocolate drink first two ingredients are sugar corn syrup partially hydrogenated soybean oil so this is gonna be super healthy uh-huh yeah that's not very good yeah

no that's not very good well no they have everything that was in there I would not not have expected that to be what was the worst thing but that's definitely the worst thing that's it bidding this whole package everything else was fairly good I guess the last thing we have is our skills which of course are just going to be like regular noodles I feel like if you were on the battlefield and you got an MRE that came with sour skills I feel like you were probably the man unless

Theory unless they come with something better like M&Ms or something but that's everything that comes inside of an MRE from Amazon if I had to pick my favorite thing out of the MRE it would probably have to be a toss-up between that wheat bread thing that tastes exactly like the crust of a pop-tart and the in the peaches that tasted just like the inside of like a pie or something

both of those were extremely good and honestly, way better than I ever thought anything would be that would come inside of an MRE the main course yeah I played give it like a four out of ten if I was starving to death of course it would be amazing but

everything else way better than I expected that's all I have for you guys today if you liked the video - give it a thumbs up if you're not subscribed go ahead and subscribe thank you for watching and I will see you in the next one you stay right there bye guys

You don't have to fear any situation in terms of food scarcity

Taste is actually pretty good

Couldn't find any to be truthful. If you're not expecting a treat in terms of delicious Italian cuisine, MRE is actually the perfect thing to store for rainy days.

What The Heck Is MRE (Meals Ready-to-Eat)

The Meal, Ready-to-Eat – commonly known as the MRE – is a self-contained, individual field ration in lightweight packaging bought by the United States Department of Defense for its service members for use in combat or other field conditions where organized food facilities are not available.

One MRE equals one meal. The packaging of an MRE is designed to withstand rough conditions and exposure to the elements. Inside each MRE bag are an entree and a variety of other food and drink items.

MREs are the main operational food ration for the United States Armed Forces. The c-rations and k-rations from World War II developed into the MCI (Meal, Combat, Individual) rations used in Korea and Vietnam. Then in 1980, the MRE was developed and became the primary ration for the US.

The military makes a few changes to the menus every year so you will find a different menu listing for each year. In general, though, each MRE contains the following:

Entree: the main course, such as Spaghetti or Beef Stew

Side dish: rice, corn, fruit, or mashed potatoes, etc.

Cracker or Bread

Spread: peanut butter, jelly, or cheese spread

Dessert: cookies or pound cakes

Candy: M&Ms, Skittles, or Tootsie Rolls

Beverages: Gatorade-like drink mixes, cocoa, dairy shakes, coffee, tea

Hot sauce or seasoning: in some MREs

Flameless Ration Heater: to heat up the entree

Accessories: spoon, matches, creamer, sugar, salt, chewing gum, toilet paper, etc.

Each MRE provides an average of 1,250 calories (13% protein, 36% fat, and 51% carbohydrates) and 1/3 of the Military Recommended Daily Allowance of vitamins and minerals. A full day’s worth of meals would consist of three MREs.

How do you eat an MRE?

True to its name, the MRE is “ready to eat” and everything can be consumed without cooking or heating (but the beverages are much better when water is added to the drink mixes). While the entrees and sides are fine to eat cold, they usually taste much better when heated up.

How long do MREs last?

MRE (Meals Ready-to-eat) in the Times of the Pandemic

Meals ready-to-eat or more commonly called MRE are going out of stock in recent weeks. Why? Because people are thinking in advance. Smart people like to be prepared, for (you must admit) all kinds of rough times scenarios.

While MRE used to be the topic of soldiers on the field and survival buffs, the situation in the world today has changed everything, and regular people who never gave it a thought before, are actively thinking about preparing for the worst.

Building up an MRE stock is, in my opinion, a very smart move. Recent developments in the U.S. and the whole of 2020 has given us endless arguments to come to the conclusion that truly anything is possible. And we're in the middle of winter.

Just imagine one of these scenarios:

1- 3 inches of snow have closed the roads of your hometown during the night. You can't go anywhere even if you managed to clean up your driveway and open your garage door. You're short on food supplies.

2- Pandemic gets out of hand during the next 2 weeks. Supermarkets and shops get looted (again).

3- Political turmoil causes a state of unrest and police curfew.

If you haven't prepared rations for a situation like the ones above, you're in trouble. A big advantage of MRE is that you build a stock once, and you're set for a long, long time.

Consider all possible scenarios and try to think smart, What's the harm in being prepared?
